San Cristobal de las Casas

Ah...San Cristobal! Sweet, sweet place. From the minute I arrived until I left, it was just lovely, lovely, lovely. I checked into the hostel (Las Palomas - totally recommend it) before 8am (had PERFECT timing, a group of 30 Frechies had just left so I had the whole place to myself the first night) and the owner called over the girls (her staff), introduced us all and got them straight onto making me a nice strong brew of coffee and sat me down in the sunny courtyard and fed me sweet pastries.
Every morning when I awoke and emerged, sleepy eyed from the room they would call out "Hola Talia" and we'd go through the same coffee-sweet-bread fun. The shower was hot and lasted until I turned it off and the bed was super comfy and I slipped into sweet dreams the whole night through.

Went to a Museum of Mayan Medicine and was more than surprised to see the childbirth process (filmed). The woman kneels on the floor facing her husband, wearing the traditional thick, black wool skirt and the midwife delivers the baby from behind, not even lifting the heavy skirt to take a look at the baby coming out. Then she pulls it out from under the skirt, and hey presto, you have a baby.

Oaxaca to San Cristobal de las Casas

Can't believe that I'm the only person who can't sleep for the entire duration of a 12 hour bus ride.
Or...more to the point, can't believe that everyone else can!
